Apostille Request Form
How long does an apostille take in Oregon?
With our service, a qualifying Oregon document is apostilled the same day. If you file yourself, the Secretary of State in Salem accepts walk-in requests on weekdays. By mail, the total time depends on shipping in both directions. The state does not publish a fixed processing time, and it recommends FedEx or UPS for time-sensitive documents.
Three things decide how long yours takes:
- How it gets to Salem. In-person delivery is fastest. Regular mail adds several days in each direction.
- Whether the document is ready. A missing notarial certificate or the wrong type of copy sends it back and restarts the clock.
- Whether it is a state or federal document. An FBI background check is federal. It goes to the U.S. Department of State, where regular processing takes 7 to 8 weeks. We offer an expedited FBI apostille in 10 business days.
Call (971) 514-3743 before 10 AM to confirm same-day availability.
How much does an Oregon apostille cost?
The Oregon Secretary of State charges $10 for each apostille. Our service fee is $195 per document, which covers document review, submission in Salem and return of your originals. Shipping and translation are quoted separately.
How to get an apostille in Oregon: step by step
- Confirm the document was issued in Oregon. Oregon can only apostille Oregon documents. A birth certificate from another state goes to that state.
- Get the right version.
- Birth, death and marriage records: an original certified copy from the Oregon Center for Health Statistics or the county. Photocopies are not accepted, and a notary cannot certify a copy of a vital record.
- Diplomas and transcripts: signed by a school official, with that signature notarized.
- Powers of attorney, affidavits and other private documents: the original, notarized by an Oregon notary with a complete notarial certificate.
- Complete the Request for Authentication form. It asks for the country where the document will be used.
- Submit with the $10 fee per document. Mail or deliver to 255 Capitol St. NE, Suite 151, Salem, OR 97310.
- Receive the apostille. It is attached to your original document. Do not remove the staple; a detached apostille may be refused abroad.
What gets Oregon documents rejected
- A notary stamp and signature with no notarial certificate wording.
- A photocopy or informational copy of a birth or marriage record.
- A diploma notarized directly, without a signed statement from a school official.
- A federal document, such as an FBI check, sent to the state.

How we help with your Oregon apostille
You can file an Oregon apostille yourself with the Secretary of State. Many people use us because a rejected document costs more time than the fee.
- We check your document first. Send a photo or scan. We confirm it is the right version, signed by the right official, before anything is submitted.
- We fix what is missing. If your document needs notarizing or a new certified copy, we arrange it.
- We submit and collect. We take your documents to the Secretary of State in Salem and return the apostilled originals by tracked courier, in the US or abroad.
- We handle the federal side too. FBI background checks and other federal documents go to the U.S. Department of State, not the state. We do both.
- You can talk to a person. Call (971) 514-3743, request a video consultation, or visit us.
Our fee: $195 per document, plus the Oregon state fee of $10. Our turnaround: same day for qualifying documents. 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back.
We are local. Visit us at 9620 NE Tanasbourne Dr, Suite 300, Hillsboro, OR 97124, or 5 Centerpointe Dr, Suite 400, Lake Oswego, OR 97035. Our mobile notaries cover Portland, Beaverton, Tigard and Gresham, including evenings and weekends.
Do you need a translation?
An apostille confirms the signature on your document. It does not translate it. If the country you are sending it to does not use English, the receiving office will usually ask for a certified translation as well.
We provide certified translation, so your Oregon document can be apostilled and translated in one order. Each translation comes with a signed certificate of accuracy.
Order matters. Some countries want the translation done after the apostille so the apostille page is translated too; others have their own translator requirements. Tell us the country and we will confirm the correct order before you pay. Contact us for a translation quote.
