United Kingdom Apostille Service
Apostille Request Form
U.S. documents for the United Kingdom are usually simpler than for continental Europe because no translation is needed, but UK institutions are strict about authentication. Solicitors handling property and probate, Companies House filings for UK subsidiaries, professional regulators registering U.S.-trained nurses, teachers and lawyers, and register offices for marriages often ask for apostilled U.S. documents.
The UK has been a Hague Convention member since 1965. An apostille comes from the U.S. state that issued the document, or from the U.S. Department of State for federal records. UK visa applications themselves rarely require apostilles, so check the exact instructions before spending money.
Does the UK Accept Apostilles?
Yes. UK authorities accept apostilled U.S. documents. The apostille confirms the U.S. signature and seal; the UK office then decides whether the document meets its own requirements.
Documents Most Often Apostilled for the UK
- Corporate documents for UK subsidiaries and bank accounts: certificates of good standing, articles, resolutions.
- Powers of attorney and probate documents for UK solicitors.
- Degrees, transcripts and license verifications for UK professional regulators.
- Birth, marriage and divorce records for marriage and family matters.
- FBI background checks where an employer or regulator requests one.
Other Requirements for the UK
Documents in English need no translation. Some UK solicitors also ask for a notary’s certification that a document is a true copy; we can tell you whether an apostilled original or a notarized copy is the better route.
How Our UK Apostille Service Works
- Tell us the documents and the country. Call (971) 514-3743 or use the form above. We confirm which version of each document you need.
- We route each document to the right authority. State documents (birth, marriage and divorce records, notarized papers) go to the Secretary of State of the state that issued or notarized them. Federal documents, such as FBI background checks and naturalization-related records, go to the U.S. Department of State.
- We return the apostilled documents to you, or ship them directly abroad with tracking.
Cost and Timing
- Oregon documents: $195 for the first and $20 for each additional, including the state fee; next business day or within 10 business days.
- Most other states: $195 per document, about 10 business days (New York is $350 for the first and $65 for each additional).
- FBI background check: $195 regular (5+ weeks) or $390 expedited (about 10 business days).
- Certified translation: $65 per document, usually 1 to 2 business days.
