Netherlands Apostille Service

Apostille Request Form

Americans moving to the Netherlands, including the many entrepreneurs using the Dutch American Friendship Treaty (DAFT), quickly meet the municipal registration (BRP) at the gemeente. To be registered with the correct details, the municipality usually asks for an apostilled birth certificate and, if married, an apostilled marriage certificate. Divorce decrees are needed to update civil status.

The Netherlands has been a Hague Convention member since 1965. U.S. documents are apostilled by the state that issued them, or by the U.S. Department of State for federal records. Dutch consulates in the U.S. don’t apostille U.S. documents.

Does the Netherlands Accept Apostilles?

Yes. Dutch municipalities and agencies accept apostilled U.S. documents. Many accept documents in English; others ask for a sworn translation into Dutch.

  1. Tell us the documents and the country. Call (971) 514-3743 or use the form above. We confirm which version of each document you need.
  2. We route each document to the right authority. State documents (birth, marriage and divorce records, notarized papers) go to the Secretary of State of the state that issued or notarized them.
