Putting a translation into evidence in Texas
Texas Rule of Evidence 1009 sets out a paper route for translated documents in state court. Serve the translation and the foreign language document on every party at least 45 days before trial, with an affidavit or unsworn declaration from a qualified translator that states the translator’s qualifications and certifies the translation is accurate.
The rule keeps a second route open, which is testimony or a deposition from a qualified translator, and lets the court alter the time limits on motion for good cause. Give us your trial setting when you order so the translator’s statement can be prepared with that deadline in mind. The judge decides admissibility.
Document translation is separate from interpreting. The Texas Office of Court Administration notes that court interpreters are licensed by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission and work in spoken and signed languages. We do not supply interpreters.
Transcripts, credentials and immigration paperwork
For USCIS filings the standard comes from 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): a full English language translation of each foreign language document, certified by the translator as complete and accurate, plus the translator’s certification of competence in both languages. Our certificate of accuracy addresses each of those points. We cannot promise how any agency will treat a filing.
- UT Dallas graduate admissions. If your documents are issued in a language other than English, a translation is required. The university says the translation can be from any certified translation company, the college or university, the ministry of education, or another authorized translation authority.
- Collin College F-1 applicants. The financial documentation you submit, such as bank statements or sponsor letters, carries the note ‘English translation required’.
