For someone in Austin, that means the apostille step can be done in person: the Secretary of State’s website lists same-day service for in-person requests, with a limit of 10 documents per person, company or transaction. Larger batches can be dropped off and are processed within 72 hours.

Form 2102 (revised June 2026) lists walk-in service on Monday and Friday and appointment-only service on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The schedule has changed more than once, so check the Secretary of State’s site before you go. In person, the office accepts checks, money orders, credit or debit cards, or cash in the exact amount.

Getting a translation ready for the apostille counter

The Secretary of State does not apostille a translation on its own. Its rules say a notary must witness the translator sign the translation statement, and the notarized translation must include a copy of the document that was translated, or the original. Documents carrying the term ‘Notario Publico’ are rejected.

The office only accepts documents issued in Texas or notarized by a Texas notary public, and certified records must have been issued within the past five years. Federal documents, such as FBI background checks and Certificates of Naturalization, are not handled there. Tell us at the start that the translation is going to the Secretary of State, and ask about our apostille help if you would rather not handle the filing yourself.
