The apostille route for a Richmond document
- Vital records. Get a certificate issued by the Virginia Department of Health within the past 12 months. It must not be notarized.
- Court records and marriage records from the clerk. Ask the Richmond Circuit Court Clerk for a copy with the two-page Certification of Official Record, also called the Triple Seal, dated within the past 12 months.
- Private documents and translations. Have the signature notarized by a Virginia notary with a complete notarial certificate in English, all on one page. The office accepts documents written in other languages but does not translate them.
- Submit. Create the cover letter online, then use an appointment, the drop box or the mail.
