Immigration paperwork and the federal translation rule

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS must come with a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and accurate, and with the translator’s certification of competence to translate from the foreign language into English.

Each translation we issue includes a signed certificate covering both statements. Acceptance is decided by USCIS, and we do not promise a result.

Michigan law also limits what notaries may claim. MCL 55.291 prohibits a notary who is not an attorney from using the term notario publico or an equivalent, and from claiming authority to counsel on immigration matters. A notary advertising in another language must state in that language that the notary is not an attorney.
