What the University of Michigan says about translated records
University of Michigan offices publish their own wording, so read the page for the program you are applying to.
Because Rackham and the College of Engineering ask for word-for-word translations that follow the layout of the original, tell us when a document is for a University of Michigan application. Send every page, including the grading scale and any stamps on the back. The certificate of accuracy is signed and names the language pair.
Whether a particular translation satisfies a program is the university’s decision. We cannot promise acceptance.
- Undergraduate Admissions. An official English translation is required to accompany the transcript if the transcript is not issued in English by the school.
- Rackham Graduate School. The translation should be issued by the university itself, by a professional and certified translator, or by EducationUSA. Translations must be literal, word for word, in the same format as the original academic record.
- College of Engineering. Repeats the literal, word-for-word, same-format requirement and lists professional licensed translation services and EducationUSA offices as alternatives when the institution does not issue translations.
