Vital records and recorded documents
The Anchorage vital records office is one of two walk-in offices run by Health Analytics and Vital Records, the state agency that issues certified birth, death, marriage and divorce records. A certified copy costs $30 for the first copy and $25 for each additional one. The state also takes orders by mail, by fax and online through VitalChek.
The Recorder’s Office belongs to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. Its Anchorage office handles 23 recording districts, including Anchorage and Juneau, and also houses the UCC Central File. According to the office, the documents it records include deeds, mortgages, assignments, liens and lien releases, court judgments and decrees, and tax liens.
Courts in Anchorage and language help
The Alaska Court System provides and pays for interpreters during court proceedings under Administrative Rule 6. To ask for one, file the Notice of Need for Interpreter, form TF-985, with the court handling your case.
An interpreter covers what is said in the courtroom. Written material such as a foreign divorce decree, judgment or contract is the work of a legal translator, and the court system’s guidance says a true and accurate translation must be produced at all times.
