Vital records fees in Alabama
The Alabama Department of Public Health sets one statewide fee schedule. A search that includes one certified copy costs $15.00, and each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time costs $6.00. Expedited handling adds $15.00.
The department states that certificates can be obtained in person at any county health department in Alabama, and that most can issue them while you wait. Mail requests go to the Center for Health Statistics, P.O. Box 5625, Montgomery, AL 36103-5625. The Center has filed Alabama marriage certificates since August 1936.
If you are translating an Alabama certificate for use abroad, order the certified copy first and send us a scan of that copy, so the translation matches the document you will actually submit.
Transcripts and the University of Alabama in Huntsville
UAH tells international undergraduate applicants that they may be asked for a document-by-document or course-by-course evaluation of their transcripts if the transcript is not in English or does not show a cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The university lists four evaluation agencies: World Education Services, Educational Credential Evaluators, International Education Evaluations and The Evaluation Company. The applicant contacts the agency, and the agency sends the official report to UAH. Copies from the applicant are not accepted.
Evaluation agencies set their own rules on translations, so check the chosen agency’s requirements before you order. We translate diplomas, transcripts and grade sheets, and keep the layout of the original so that course names and marks line up.

Redstone Arsenal legal assistance
The Legal Assistance Office at Redstone Arsenal, Building 3439 Honest John Road, provides notarizations and powers of attorney on a walk-in basis for eligible clients. Eligibility covers active-duty service members, military retirees, Reserve and National Guard retirees receiving retirement or disability pay, and their dependents. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., phone 256-876-9005.

Getting an Alabama apostille from Huntsville
Apostilles for Alabama documents are issued only by the Secretary of State in Montgomery. The office’s own instructions set out the following.
- Fee. $5.00 per document, whether you request an apostille or a certification.
- Form. A completed Authentication Submittal Form goes in with the documents. It asks for the country where the document will be used.
- Address. Office of the Secretary of State, Authentication Division, 11 South Union Street, Suite 224, Montgomery, AL 36130. Walk-in service runs 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
- Timing. The form asks you to allow five business days for mail time.
- Signatures. An apostille requires the original signature and seal of a currently commissioned Alabama notary public, probate judge or the State Registrar. Birth and death certificates must bear the signature of the current State Registrar.
- Non-Hague countries. For a certification, each notarized document also needs a county authentication of the notary’s commission from the probate judge’s office. For a Huntsville notary that is the Madison County Probate Office on Memorial Parkway.
- Foreign-language documents. The Secretary of State requires a notarized English translation with any document in a foreign language.
What the certified translation includes
Every order includes the full translation and a signed certificate of accuracy. If the receiving office asks for a notarized translator’s statement, as the Alabama Secretary of State does for foreign-language documents, tell us when you order. We can also help with the apostille request itself. Each agency, court or school decides for itself what it accepts, so confirm its requirements first.
